Fractionated Coconut Oil- Cocos nucifera – hydrolysis
This carrier oil for essential oil massage is derived from the meat of the coconut. The meat of the coconut is where most of the oil is located. After the coconut oil is extracted from the meat of the coconut, it is steam distilled to remove the triglycerides. This is where the term fractionated comes from.
The result of the process leaves a fraction of the oil because the triglycerides have been removed. This is what the difference is between this clear, odorless oil used as a carrier oil and the coconut oil you may purchase for use in the kitchen.
Fractionated Coconut Oil is less expensive than many of the other carrier oils and has a very long shelf life. This light and non-greasy oil tends not to stain sheets, which is a plus for use in massage.
