Petitgrain Essential Oil Benefits
Petitgrain essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves and small tender twigs of the Bitter Orange Tree. Although there are several other species of Bitter Orange trees that may be used to obtain Petitgrain essential oil, most is produced from the Citrus aurantium tree.
Petitgrain essential oil has many uses. You are probably using a product that contains Petitgrain essential oil in your daily life and you weren’t even aware of it. It is used in everything from household products to skincare products and even fragrances you may be wearing.
There are a number of benefits to be derived from using Petitgrain essential oil. Since it is obtained from the same source tree as Neroli essential oil and Bitter Orange essential oil it has many of the same benefits. However, the aroma of Petitgrain is not as floral or citrusy as those other oils. It has more of a woody aroma than the others, with less of the floral and citrus scents, although a hint of those are still present.

Petitigrain essential oil has been called the “poor man’s Neroli” because it has many of the same benefits without the high cost. Since Neroli is obtained from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree it is much more scarce. This is due to the large amount of flowers it takes to extract a small amount of the essential oil. So next time you are trying to decide if it is worth spending the extra money for Neroli oil, why not give Petitgrain a try? You might just find it is your new favorite oil.
